  Not a nice place to go at night by yourself, especially for women. However the shops in the area are my go to for cheap common goods and clothes. Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants in the area are quite good and cheap. One of my favorite places to get lunch on a Friday. There is much less crime in the area than there used to be, but still be aware of your surroundings and don't leave your belongings unattened. I wouldn't even the up my bike in the area.
